Compliance Overview (CM01)
The Health Improvement, Portability and Accountability Act of 1998 has forever changed the face of documentation and compliance. Federal compliance with complex rules regarding self-referral, anti-kickback rules, Stark regulations, documentation requirements and federal False Claims have created an imperative for practices. Participants will get an overview of the Act, the most common areas for violations and strategies for establishing practice policies and procedures to minimize compliance problems. This program is designed for managers and physicians.
Creating Practical Compliance Plans (CM02)
The Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA) has established guidelines for creating compliance plans that are designed to minimize the chance of fraud and abuse with respect to billing and reimbursement. Participants will learn the seven sections of the plan and how to develop a plan that is unique to the needs of the individual practice. Learn how to not "over-do" a compliance plan. A plan that is too difficult to follow may be worse than having no plan at all. Registered participants will be able to have a downloaded model compliance plan that can be customized to practice needs. This program is designed for practice managers and physicians and is recommended as a follow-up course to Compliance Overview.
Introduction to Medicare (CM03)
Although Medicare effects virtually every practice either directly or indirectly, many practices are unaware of some basic rules and requirements of Medicare. As Medicare uses the fee schedule and a complex set of rules to constantly manipulate reimbursement, practices are increasingly challenged to keep up. Participants will learn the basic rules of participation, patient encounters, billing and reimbursement. You will also learn how Medicare differs from other payers and how it sets the rules for many other payers. This program is designed for all staff and physicians.
Medicare Update (CM04)
Every year Medicare updates its policies and procedures through updates to the Medicare Carriers' Manual. In addition, HCFA, the Office of the Inspector General, Congress and others formulate new policies affecting patients and providers. Participants will learn the newest policies affecting their practices as well as strategies for dealing with these new policies. This program builds on the Introduction to Medicare curriculum . This program is recommended for all staff and physicians.
Annual Review of HIPAA Privacy & Security (CM05)
The dramatic additions to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), first passed into law in 1996, with the advent of the HIPAA Privacy Rules and two years later the HIPAA Security Rules provides a new layer of regulations that all medical practices need to deal with on a day-to-day basis. HIPAA Privacy Rules require the adoption of specific practice policies to address patient privacy issues, while the Security Rules require a broad technique to assess risk and the techniques for handling “electronic” data. In addition, both the Privacy and Security Rules require annual and ongoing training efforts for all physicians and staff. This course in an ideal way to satisfy all the requirements for the annual HIPAA Privacy and HIPAA Security training for all physicians, surgeons and staff.

Creating An Effective OSHA Compliance Plan (CM07)
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is directly responsible for safety in the workplace with broad regulatory authority. In many cases the functions of OSHA are handed over to state governments for enforcement, making it difficult to generalize on all aspects of the regulations. However, this course will focus in on the elements of OSHA regulations specific to the handling of bloodborne pathogens and other areas of interest to medical practices. While this course will provide a broad understand of how OSHA regulations effect all small businesses and specifically medical practices … and what actions must be done to address specific requirements and implement an effective compliance program for the safety of physicians and staff.
