Overview of CMS’s ePrescribing Program - Live 12-04-2008

The Center for Medicare / Medicaid Services (CMS) will be implementing a new program beginning in 2009 to encourage physicians to utilize electronic technologies to handle patient prescriptions. As part of the PQRI program, CMS takes a carrot and stick approach by providing a 2% bonus in 2009 & 2010 for physicians who are successful electronic prescribers. This bonus declines in future years and is replaced by a reduction in Medicare payments beginning in 2012. CMS believes that ePrescribing will lead to a reduction in medical errors, improved patient safety and a long-term cost savings. This curse will provide a broad introduction and overview to this important new program.
